Toronto Pet Licensing
Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 349, requires that all dogs and cats owned in Toronto be licensed and wearing a tag. For a small annual fee, your pet can be returned to you if accidentally lost or if there is an emergency, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Because the licence tag contains contact information for Toronto Animal Services, your privacy is protected.
Your licence fees go directly back to Toronto Animal Services to help support programs such as pet adoption, spaying/neutering and providing medical care for lost and homeless animals.
Toronto Animal Services offers reduced fees for cat and dog owners, such as reduced licensing fees for service animals (e.g., guide dogs), pets which have been sterilized, and pets which are licensed by senior citizens.
Failure to license your cat or dog each year may result in a $240.00 ticket. If you are taken to court under the current law, the maximum penalty is a $5,000.00 fine.
The Richview Animal Hospital is happy to help you out with licensing your pet with the City of Toronto! Come to our hospital and purchase or renew your pet license. We will take your information and payment and your new tag will be sent to you in the mail!
